My plate has been a little full this Summer, with little time to shoot, but I found a few moments. I did feel that I was able to pick up from where I left off last Summer, so though I had way less time to shoot, I was very prepared and able to make the most of the time I had. I followed that up with looking for tips and tricks and found Thomas Shahan's macrophotography. His work is incredible and a real inspiration. I'm looking forward to continue to shoot next Summer!
The roll out continues! The Canon 100mm IS is simply amazing. Everything I had hoped for and so much more. Continuing to work with a flash and digging through my house to find a polarizing filter; I am getting a great sharpness, but some glare that I'd like to eliminate. Back to it...
Summer of Bugs is back! I plan on primarily posting everything through my Instagram account, and will add bonus content here on the blog.
First off, I was so pleased on how the Summer of Bugs series went in 2014. Granted, I had quite a bit of time off and had some freedom to experiment. That laid a great foundation to build upon and I learned so much.
Gear wise, last year I shot primarily on an iPhone 4S with an Olloclip lens. I love the Olloclip! It was such a great introduction to macro photography. I did try using extension tubes with a dslr and lens, but went for very basic and cheap and they literally fell apart. I was pretty dissuaded by that quick fix, and after looking into more substantial extension tubes, I found any money invested in them would be better put towards a proper macro lens. I made that leap and have been thrilled so far.
So, here's what I have found so far:
My parents have always supported and inspired all of my endeavours. It's always great to get the chance to turn the lens on them.
Production Photography for theatre is a challenge with many demands. Photographers usually visit a production at its most critical and vulnerable moments just before the opening performance. Not only do you have to work without being a disruption, you also have to turn your work around quickly so it can be used in promotional materials. You also have to compose to what the production looks like from an audiences perspective. In November and December I had three chances to visit and shoot for three very different productions.
